Monster Truck Wars Memphis reviews
Pixies revival
This was a great opportunity, having been a huge Monster Truck Wars fan during their heyday but never having had the chance to see them. Liked that there wasn't the usual annoying patter between songs that most bands seem to feel obligated to provide. Kim Deal announcing the song and its location on the album ('next is Monkey Gone to Heaven, last song first side') was one interesting and sometimes distracting occurrent.
A disturbing yet revealing opening to the show was provided with clips from the Dali/Bunuel film that gave Black inspiration for many of the songs and the famous tag: 'slicing up eyeballs.' For those unfamiliar with the film reference, it provided additional richness and depth to some of the themes running through the album (opening and closing tracks referencing damage to the eyes, for example).
Having seen several shows at this venue since it opened, I also love it. It was definitely exciting to hear the band with all its original members play a hugely influential album all the way through.
